M/Y Seaduction sunk at Elba Reef in southern Egypt

18 divers from Mayenne rescued from sinking vessel in Egypt. During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, the boat carrying a group of divers from the Laval club sank in the Red Sea off the Egyptian coast. Fortunately, all the occupants of the boat are reported to have escaped unharmed.

Wreck of SS Ilse discovered

Team Baltictech discovers new wreck: Recently, the Baltictech team made a remarkable find – the wreck of the Ilse, a Swedish cargo steamer lying in the Baltic Sea just north of Władysławowo. Surprisingly intact, with the inscription ‘ILSE 1929’ still glowing on the hull, this discovery is a special testament to the history that can be found at the bottom of the sea.

More sea turtle nests on Zakynthos

According to the Guardian, the sea turtle Caretta caretta (loggerhead turtle) seems to be spreading again in Greece, as it has in Italy. On Sekania beach on the island of Zakynthos, also known as the largest “maternity ward” in the Mediterranean for this species of turtle, there are not only a record number of nests this year, at 1,200, but also a particularly high number of hatchlings that have survived, the newspaper quoted a representative of the WWF as saying.

Dive4Diadema – against mass extinction

A citizen science project: For a good year now, the citizen science project Dive4Diadema has been searching for the last surviving diadem urchins in the Red Sea. (We reported on this...). The aim is to find out more about the sudden disappearance of this important sea urchin species, which plays a central role as an algae eater on coral reefs. Diadema urchins eat algae from the corals, creating space for them to grow. You can actively help by using an app to report sightings of the sea urchins.
