St George Wreck, Dominican Republic
The 80m long steel freighter St George has been scuttled as an artificial reef in the national park in early 1999. Situated on the south east coast a short boat journey from the port of Bayahibe, the freighter is placed upright in 30-40m depth. You descend and then the wreck looms out of the blue. The wreck is easily accessed.
Penetration is possible in the upper decks and bridge which are stripped bare of snags. Huge holds and space to dive and discover offer an impressive underwater world for wreck divers and deep-sea divers.
It is deep and there are sometimes currents so it is for ´experienced´ or AOWD with xx dives. There is a resident large barracuda here. If you don’t dive anywhere else in Bayahibe, dive this site!
