Bali Tourism: Total failure for 2020

The Bali Island Government does not want to allow foreign tourists to return as early as September 11th, but at the beginning of January 2021 at the earliest. For fear of a further spread of the corona virus, foreign tourists are no longer allowed to visit the Indonesian vacation island of Bali until the end of the year.

The background to this is the rising infection figures in Indonesia and numerous travel restrictions imposed in the most important countries of origin of the tourists. "The situation in Indonesia is not conducive to allowing international tourists to visit Indonesia, including Bali," says an official letter dated Saturday from Bali's Governor Dr. Ir. I Wayan Koster. A new opening of the island after the lockdown should not be rushed at all and requires the most careful preparations.

The governor did not yet name an exact date for the return of foreign tourists. Since the end of July, domestic tourists are allowed to enjoy the beaches and cultural sights of the island again.

So far, a good 4,000 infections with the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus have been detected in Bali. About 50 infected persons have died so far. "The new cases are under control, the recovery rate is growing and the death rate is under control", Governor Koster emphasized in his letter. Throughout Indonesia, more than 153,000 corona infections and at least 6,680 Covid-19 deaths have been registered so far.

The only exceptions to the above-mentioned entry ban are for holders of diplomatic and service passports with the corresponding visas and for foreign nationals with KITAS (Limited Stay Permit) / KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit), provided the medical requirements for entry are met. For example, they must present a health certificate in English from the country of departure, which is no more than seven days old, certifying a negative Covid19-PCR test and the absence of symptoms of disease, and then go into a 14-day home quarantine.
