A paradise for underwater lovers
Cyprus is not only a popular destination for divers in the eastern Mediterranean, which is particularly attractive due to its mild climate and pleasant water temperatures (between 16 and 27 °C) all year round.
One of the island's highlights is the famous wreck of the ‘Zenobia’, a large ferry that sank off Larnaca in 1980. The ship is considered one of the most exciting wreck dives in the world and offers plenty to discover, such as lorries still lying on the deck.
Other well-known wrecks in Cyprus are the ‘Elpida’ off Larnaca and the ‘Nemesis III’ near Protaras, which serve as artificial reefs and take divers to various depths of up to 30 metres.
Cyprus also offers exciting underwater landscapes with caves and grottos as well as an impressive variety of marine life, including octopuses, moray eels, rays and colourful sponges. The underwater sculpture park MUSAN near Ayia Napa, with unique works of art on the seabed, is also a crowd-puller, especially for underwater photographers. Divers, snorkellers and freedivers are equally welcome here.
Diving in Cyprus can be wonderfully combined with sights above the water: 11,000 years of culture and history, beautiful landscapes, interesting towns and, last but not least, the unique island cuisine inspire visitors - with a good climate all year round and 340 days of sunshine. Information on diving in Cyprus and beyond will be available at the BOOT water sports trade fair in Düsseldorf in January 2025 at the taucher.net joint stand.
