Garbage from the mangroves is turned into new products

A lot is already being made from the plastic that is fished out of the sea. From collected nets bracelets (https://bracenet.net/), rain jackets (http://oceantextile.de), dog collars (https://projectblu.co/), bags (https://www.manufactum.de/recyclingprodukte-c199311/) and much "more" are made. Now Mama Earth has the idea to produce a double useful thing out of it, which finds a second use in the schools of the Philippines. A chair made of recycled plastic. Collected in the mangroves around the islands of the Philippines.

Plastic waste is increasingly getting caught in the roots of the mangroves due to the ongoing pollution of the oceans, damaging their growth among other things. The workers of Mama Earth regularly plant mangroves and are thus confronted with plastic waste on a daily basis. Now, for a little extra money, they are tasked with collecting this trash and recycling it. Plastic waste in the sea must be collected as quickly as possible, because otherwise it will also be ground into microplastics and enter the food chain of marine life. But collection does not solve the plastic problem. The inevitable question remains, "Where to put the collected plastic?" Fishing it out of the ocean and then dumping it on land cannot be a solution. Above-ground storage sites are usually located near bodies of water, and the next storm will carry everything back into the rivers or the sea. Burning the trash is one thing, recycling is a better one.

Now, Mama Earth has collaborated with a recycling company in Davao to develop sturdy and durable chairs for schools, made from about 30 kilograms of marine debris. This is an ideal solution for the tropical climate, which can quickly deteriorate chairs made of cheap wood. In this way, garbage is turned into a useful reuse that also does good in schools.

YOUR TREES MAKE THE WORLD GREENER

The Mama Earth Foundation is massively replanting mangroves in the Philippines. Nearly 2 million have already been planted, and more are being planted every day. Mangroves not only secure a better income for the local population, but also store a lot of CO2.

Mama Earth has planted nearly 2,000,000 mangroves and trees. With us, everyone can plant, be it mangroves (0,33 Euro) or endemic trees that grow into forests. For example, the photo of your tree imprinted in a noble gift card costs only 7.50 euros (https://mama-earth.de/mama-earth-gruene-produkte-und-umweltschutz/).
