Entire Red Sea coast closed - safari ships not allowed to sail
For today, Friday (November 29th), a complete ban on all safari boats, day boats and even fishing boats - from Suez to the south to Hamata - was imposed, as we were told.
The pictures show a harbor area of Hurghada where neither day boats nor safari boats are allowed to leave. Apparently the ban only applies for today.
Stormy seas?
The official reason is stormy weather. All ships already underway have been advised to seek sheltered areas as quickly as possible. We are not sure why this instruction was given, because the wind situation today is rather moderate - the prospects are neither stormy nor in any way suitable for imposing a ban on leaving the harbour.
Another source reported a military maneuver off Hurghada as the reason for the closure. However, no one was able to explain why the entire coast from Suez to the south was closed.
We are trying to stay on top of the issue and obtain more background information. As soon as we are able to gather official statements, we will post them here.
