Marvel at this ‘other’ world together!
Would you like to learn more about the underwater world? Learn how reefs work and how we humans influence our environment. In short lectures prepared by Andrea Moser, various aspects of marine life will be highlighted on a special Bluewater Safaris tour on the Independence II – all in the relaxed atmosphere of the popular Independence II ship.
Date: 9 April – 16 April 2026

Course content (excerpt)
Sea snails, for example, delight us with their colourful appearance, but their way of life also holds many secrets. The underwater world also spoils us with a wonderful play of colours. However, we only see a limited spectrum of light.
Bioluminescence and fluorescence are also important means of communication in this ‘other’ world. A constant ‘give and take’ can be observed in the reef, with symbiosis forming the very basis of life in the reef. For example, corals harbour zooxanthellae inside them, forming one of the most important partnerships on Earth.
Hunting strategies, camouflage and warning signals, as well as the different sensory perceptions of animals will also be discussed. We will also take a look at the influence humans have on reefs and the marine ecosystem.
Participation in the lectures is, of course, free of charge and not compulsory.
About the speaker: Andrea Moser (biologist)
Andrea has been diving for more than 20 years and often feels more at home underwater than above. However, the abundance of different creatures is also her world on dry land. Ecology and evolution were the focus of her studies at university and, as a biologist, she now teaches young people and adults at secondary school.
As a hobby, she pursues marine biology topics with great curiosity. She is particularly interested in the diversity of life forms in the reef. She is also fascinated by the interactions between the individual reef inhabitants and their different survival strategies.
About the ship: Independence II
Guests stay in a total of 10 double cabins on their diving safari – 6 of these cabins have separate beds and 4 cabins are equipped with a double bed that is no less comfortable. Each cabin has its own bathroom, which is more spacious on the Independence II than one would expect on a diving safari ship. The cabins, with double or single beds, are spread across different decks.
‘Relaxation’ is the motto on board the Independence II, which is why the ship only carries 20 guests despite its impressive length of 41 metres.
