Summary of the year 2022

The past year 2022 was an exciting year for Ghost Diving Germany with many challenges and highlights. Thanks to your support, the team around Kai Wallasch and Derk Remmers was able to implement many important projects. On the North Sea, the "Ghost Divers" recovered half a ton of nets in one week under sometimes challenging conditions. From the Baltic Sea, almost two tonnes of nets and other rubbish were recovered from the sea in a total of four different missions.

Internationally, the team carried out several projects in Croatia and off Lampedusa together with other national ghost diving organisations.

Suitable nets were handed over to the partner BRACENET and the limited special edition made from them, which bears the Ghost Diving logo, is a real eye-catcher. The remaining nets were passed on for recycling to make new yarn for new products or to generate energy.

Not only nets were salvaged, but also a variety of marine life was rescued and cut free from the nets. Numerous fish, crabs and starfish were freed and released back into the sea. In the future, they will be able to get caught in fewer nets and every net less in the sea reduces the burden of microplastics. A great success in this gigantic Sisyphus work.

Ghost Diving Germany e.V. was founded 15 months ago. A small group of committed marine conservationists has become a powerful, highly qualified force that has been active both at national level and in international net mountain projects: one can only agree with the underlying motto: "Only together can we achieve that the oceans become cleaner!"

For 2023, Ghost-Diving Germany's plans are in full swing. The association is growing, with more divers and a growing network of supporters, the team will clean the North and Baltic Seas together again. The continuous training and further education of the volunteer divers is very important to the "Ghost-Divers" so that they are prepared for the challenges of ghost net salvage.
