App update in five languages
Following the mass death of crown-of-thorns starfish in the Mediterranean in spring 2023 and subsequent losses in the Red Sea, the citizen science portal Dive4Diadema was launched – supported by many dedicated people from the diving industry.
Numerous reports have already been received by the operators of Dive4Diadema. While initially it was mainly the absence or death of sea urchins that was reported, fortunately there have been more and more sightings of living animals in recent months. Thank you all for your great cooperation!
Even though there are only a few animals in many places so far, this is a very positive sign: a number of sea urchins have survived, and these animals in particular are now crucial for future generations and the further spread of the species. This makes it all the more exciting to continue observing this repopulation process and learning from it.
Prof. Dr. Ralph Schill, initiator of the project, talks about the next steps: "Dive4Diadema is therefore continuing: we have updated the app in five languages and have now moved from the alert stage to the observation stage. You can update the app again for free in the App Store. Thank you very much for your commitment!
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at info@dive4diadema.org or visit us in person at the aquatil booth 11-17 at the boot Düsseldorf water sports fair from January 17-25, 2026. We look forward to seeing you!"
Taucher.Net would also like to express its sincere thanks to all those involved and to Ralph and his Dive4Diadema.
