New diving center made of plexiglass and steel
The new diving tower, which may celebrate its inauguration on April 17th at the boot Düsseldorf, was tested for us by the diving instructors Jürgen and Frank.
Due to the pandemic, the boot Düsseldorf will open its doors on April 17, 2021 (see also news article boot 2021). A special highlight is the new diving tower, which will find its place in exhibition hall 12.
Jürgen Sütterlin, designer and developer of the tower, Andreas Berg, in whose factory the tower was developed, and boot chief Petros Michelidakis met on December 16 at the factory in Wiehl, Germany. A marvel filled with 200,000 liters of water, four meters high and eight meters wide, made of Plexiglas and steel, gives the divers and spectators a complete all-round view of what’s going on. Diving instructors Jürgen Arends and Frank Penningsfeld are the first to be allowed to dive into the 14-degree water for a test.
"I have known the boot show for many years, of course, and am there as an exhibitor with my diving school. This new construction is something very special. The water is still a bit chilly, but with the right drysuit it's no problem and it will be considerably warmer at the show," Jürgen explains. "It's a great feeling to be the first one in the water," adds Frank.
For the constructor, Jürgen Sütterlin, this dive is also a special moment. "It's great that Jürgen and Frank are doing the test for us here and they enjoyed it. For me as a designer, it's always a very special experience to see the finished product and be able to examine it in action."
"Here in our factory, we have done everything we can to build Jürgen Sütterlin's templates true to detail. For example, I think the access to the tower via the spiral staircase and the platform at the top are very successful (...). The material is also important: the struts are made of stainless steel and the stairs of fireproof steel," adds Andreas Berg.
Petros Michelidakis is also impressed: "Of course I know the drawings and we already decided on this model many months ago, but to see it standing here fully operational now is a great feeling. I particularly like the inclusion of the boot logo." The entire floor of the diving tower, is adorned with a huge logo of the world's largest water sports trade show.
In January, the diving tower is to be delivered to the Düsseldorf trade fair ground. There it will then wait until April 17, when the first divers will be allowed to dive in during boot show 2021.
