Wolfgang Pölzer, a native of Austria and a marine biologist by training, specialized in underwater photography shortly after completing his studies and made it his profession. For more than 25 years, he has worked as a travel journalist and author for numerous international diving, travel, and nature magazines. Among his greatest achievements are several gold medals at international underwater photography competitions.

The four-day workshop offers an ideal blend of theory and practice. Each day of the course begins with a morning theory session, followed by two dives at Elba’s most beautiful dive sites. After a group lunch break, the photos taken are analyzed and discussed. For the duration of the workshop, participants have their own boat at their disposal, ensuring maximum flexibility in choosing photo locations.

Workshop content at a glance:

Day 1 – Basics of (Underwater) Photography
The focus is on the most important photographic fundamentals, such as the interplay between aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and depth of field. This knowledge forms the foundation for better images and is just as valuable for beginners as it is for advanced photographers.

Day 2 – Macro Photography: Small Things, Big Impact
Techniques for impressive close-ups, choosing the right lens, flash positions, and the use of close-up lenses are on the agenda. Optionally, Wolfgang Pölzer will also provide tips on underwater photography at night.

Day 3 – Wide-Angle, Model, and Portrait Photography
Participants will learn how to best capture divers, dive buddies, and underwater landscapes. Topics include mixed lighting techniques, flash positions, image composition, lens selection, and communicating with the model underwater.

Day 4 – Wreck Photography
How do you photograph wrecks in an exciting and atmospheric way? Wolfgang Pölzer teaches techniques for lighting, image composition, and incorporating dive buddies to create fascinating images of sunken historical artifacts.
