Well-known shark expert and shark protector deceased
Erich Ritter, one of the most famous shark researchers, has died unexpectedly. In his adopted country Florida he fell asleep last night and never woke up. The cause of death is not yet known, but it is known that he suffered from a heart condition.
His great love was sharks; Sharkschool®, which he founded, teaches people interaction concepts with sharks. His well-known mantra on this topic: "There are no dangerous sharks, only dangerous situations". Ritter discovered his passion for sharks in his childhood in films about sharks. Nobody stood up for these animals, that's why he wanted to do this absolutely... Ritter was regularly called in as an expert when shark attacks on people were to be explained. In 2002 the shark researcher was seriously injured himself. While filming for Discovery Channel in the Bahamas, he was attacked by a bull shark and his life was in danger.
Wirodive, a well known German travel company, closely associated with Erich Ritter, writes about this on their Facebook page: "We are stunned and shocked. Our dear friend and shark protector Dr. Erich Ritter passed away in his sleep peacefully at his Florida home. The shark whisperer, the rock in the surf for the sharks. This is how we will remember him from the bottom of our hearts. Please understand that out of consideration for the relatives we will keep it short and publish a personal obituary at a later date".
In silent mourning, the editorial staff.
