Harald Hordosch Hands Over to Markus Inglin

After almost four decades in Austria, a new chapter is beginning for SEACAM in Switzerland. The manufacturer of underwater housings, optics and accessories for professional photographers – which, according to its own information, has been based in Voitsberg, Styria, since 1989 – will continue as SEACAM AG, headquartered in Ibach in the Swiss canton of Schwyz, from 1 January 2027.

The new owner and managing director is the Swiss photographer and entrepreneur Markus Inglin, who has known the brand as a partner for years. Founder Harald Hordosch will remain with the company in the coming years as an actively involved partner and adviser.

A Transition Planned in Advance

The company describes the change as a carefully planned transition. Harald Hordosch has “set a course for the future in good time”, according to the press release dated 22 October 2026. He is quoted as saying: “Responsible corporate governance involves setting a course for the future in good time. With this succession plan, we are sharpening our structures, strengthening our international market presence and sustainably ensuring our high quality standards from a single source.”

One point is emphasised: according to the company, SEACAM remains a 100 per cent independent, owner-managed European company. For specialist manufacturers who produce their products by hand, an orderly generational handover is by no means a given. Markus Inglin, who is taking over, is someone who, according to the press release, has shared the brand’s values and quality standards for years and works as a photographer himself.

The Timetable

The move will take place in stages. The Voitsberg site will remain in regular operation until 6 November 2026. From 7 to 30 November, the site will no longer be operational so that the move can be prepared and the new infrastructure set up. However, according to Harald Hordosch, SEACAM will remain reachable for customers who have not received this information, and the new team can also be reached at any time by email at hello@seacam.com.

On 1 December 2026, SEACAM AG will begin operations in Switzerland and enter a start-up phase during which orders and enquiries will be accepted gradually. From 1 January 2027, all services are expected to be fully available to customers and partners.

Reactions from Those Close to the Company

Georg Nies, a SEACAM dealer in Germany who has been closely associated with Harald Hordosch for 15 years, expresses his gratitude for Hordosch’s life’s work in a Facebook post. With his ideas and his perfectionism, the founder developed products “that are second to none”. Many underwater images would not have been possible without him. As examples of generations of photographers who have worked with SEACAM, Nies cites, amongst others, David Doubilet, Laurent Ballesta and Stephen Frink.

In another, very personal Facebook post, Nies describes the transition as a mixture of wistfulness and optimism. With Harald Hordosch’s departure, “an era is coming to an end”, but he is glad that Hordosch will remain available in an advisery capacity for several years. He has known and valued Markus Inglin for almost 20 years; over the past five years, Inglin has proven himself as a SEACAM dealer, for instance at joint stands at Interdive and Boot.

According to Nies, little will change for customers in Germany: He will remain the dealer and point of contact; trade fairs, workshops and the Underwater Photography Days will take place as before; his warehouse is well stocked; and orders can be placed at any time. The only new development for him is the additional import and export to Switzerland.

What Remains

Whether continuity is achieved is not decided by press releases, but in customers’ day-to-day experience: in terms of delivery times, service and points of contact at the new location. To this end, the company is relying on familiarity. The new owner knows the brand, the founder remains on board, and dealers such as Nies maintain the link with the photographers. The change of location is therefore primarily an organisational task. The key factor will be whether the transition, during the weeks of the move and the start-up phase, is successful without any gaps in service for customers.
