Good news from the Turtle Foundation

The new nesting season began on Boa Vista at the start of June: the first female sea turtles have already returned to the protected beaches to lay their eggs. So far, the Turtle Foundation team has counted 524 nests and has already managed to rescue three lost turtles.

Over the coming months, the teams will continue to work tirelessly to protect the turtles and their nests and to collect vital data. The Turtle Foundation is delighted to be sharing this journey with you once again.

The Turtle Foundation writes: “With the start of the nesting season, the busiest time of the year begins for our teams on Boa Vista. We owe it to you that we are able to continue this vital work year after year. Through your donations, by sharing our message and showing an interest in our work, you are an indispensable part of our efforts to protect sea turtles.
We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Together, we can help ensure that sea turtles continue to find a safe place to nest on the beaches of Boa Vista in the future.

This year’s Sea Turtle Week focused on coastal protection: during the Global Ocean Cleanup, volunteers collected 876 kilograms of marine litter, from which the artist Eurico Estrela Andrade, in collaboration with the Fundação Tartaruga, created an installation comprising 200 octopus traps – which was awarded first place by the Oceanic Society.
