Hans 'Shuttle' Schach passed away
My dear friend, editorial colleague and co-moderator Hans 'Shuttle' Schach (*22.1.1955 - †18.6.2024) passed away on 18 June 2024. He lost his long battle with cancer.
'Shuttle' was born in 1955 in Nürtingen, Swabia. It was already clear during his school days that Shuttle liked to 'look behind the scenes' and had a good eye for detail. His analytical approach and desire to scrutinise facts led him to a career as a controller. This career choice was ideal and laid the foundation for his further professional career as a management consultant. He was able to advise small companies through to large corporations with his expertise. Shuttle has been enjoying a well-earned retirement with his wife Birgit for the past two years.
Shuttle's interests were wide-ranging and he was always open to learning and experiencing new things; hence his great desire to explore the world with his wife Birgit and to better understand people and foreign cultures. In addition to travelling, diving and music were his great passions.
The love of music and attending concerts of all genres were a great joy for Shuttle and Birgit. But not just listening - making music was also an important aspect of Shuttle's life: he and 'stringed instruments' became very good friends at an early age. Both guitar and bass accompanied him throughout his life and he played in various bands. His last appearance with Billy & the Kids at boot-2024 will remain unforgotten: Billy & the Kids are one of the best cover bands in the Reutlingen area. The heart of the band with extensive stage experience beats for the rock music of the 70s and 80s, a genre that Shuttle particularly appreciated.
Diving - a great passion
The fascinating underwater world and diving became his second great passion. Here, too, he was able to share his passion with Birgit. The two of them gained a lot of experience over the years and Shuttle found great joy in passing on his passion for diving. Becoming an active diving instructor was therefore a logical step. His love of diving also led him to Taucher.Net, where he became a moderator and member of the DiveInside editorial team in summer 2008. His specialist articles and expertise were much appreciated and his ability to explain even complex issues in a simple and understandable way was a great help to the diving community.
You could say that Shuttle was a bon vivant and was rarely to be found without a smile on his face. Good food and a tasty single malt are of course the perfect accompaniment.
With Shuttle, we are losing a person who enriched our lives with his open and friendly manner. No matter what it was about, you could have wonderful, in-depth conversations with him. His positive attitude and ability to enjoy the finer things in life made him someone we enjoyed spending time with. Shuttle - you are missed! RIP my dear friend, it was a great pleasure to know you and to work with you!
