A new model in the scuba collection by Stefan Wiessmeyer
After the penguin was added to the scuba collection as a symbol of the Antarctic last year, Stefan Wiessmeyer wanted to add the symbol of the Arctic: the polar bear.
We spoke to Stefan about his new creation and wanted to know how he came up with the polar bear as a new motif: ‘My collection now includes over 75 marine animals representing the seven seas. With the polar bear and the penguin, I want to integrate the wildlife of the polar regions into my collection and honour their unique beauty and importance - especially in view of the threats posed by climate change.’
The polar regions are among the hardest hit areas as global warming accelerates the melting of sea ice, threatening the habitat and survival of these species. ‘With my collection, I want to draw attention to these fascinating yet endangered regions and raise awareness for their protection. I still make all the jewellery by hand in my own workshop,’ explains Stefan.
About Stefan Wiessmeyer's ‘scuba collection’
Jewellery with fish and sea creatures: Back in 1995, after a diving holiday in the Maldives, Stefan Wiessmeyer had the idea for his jewellery collection featuring tropical fish and sea creatures, which was initially called ‘Little Fish’. From the very beginning, all pieces of jewellery were designed and modelled by Stefan himself and then produced by him personally in elaborate handwork. Over the years, the collection has grown steadily and new models have been added so that the current scuba collection now comprises over 75 different motifs.
