Come on, let's flip through some pages! Starting today, Taucher.Net will be presenting a series of books that smell of salt, adventure, and wanderlust. Because reading and looking at pictures go together with the underwater world like a mask goes with your nose – and because a really good book is still the most comfortable dive for your sofa. And let's be honest: books like these also make perfect gifts for divers – or simply a well-deserved reward for yourself when the next trip is still a long way off.

We start with “Im Reich der Stille” (In the Realm of Silence) by our old companion Linus Geschke (author) and the exceptional photographer Tobias Friedrich. Linus wrote for us back when buoyancy compensators were still made of wood – and yes, without Taucher.Net he would never have become so successful... wink, wink. Today he is a best-selling author, but when it comes to wrecks and sunken places, he still writes with wet hands and shining eyes. Tobias, on the other hand, is one of the most decorated underwater photographers in the world, Underwater Photographer of the Year 2018 in London, a man who transforms the sea into light. Together, the two are a dream team: one tells the story, one shows it – and both are spot on.

The book itself is an XXL tome: 30 × 38 × 3 cm, 288 pages, cloth binding – not just a picture book, but a living room dive. You open it and fall right into double-page spreads: graveyards of history, crashed planes, mighty shipwrecks, sunken settlements, quiet places where the sea has preserved time. Tobias' photos are large, clear, and full of atmosphere; Linus contributes short, pointed texts for each location – just long enough to give you the story and context, and just short enough to keep the images center stage. You leaf through, linger, read two paragraphs, leaf back, discover details that you only see at second glance.

“Im Reich der Stille” (In the Realm of Silence) is not a catalog, but an invitation: to marvel, to dream, to dive into your thoughts. For divers anyway, for sea nerds even more so – and for anyone who wants to know what stories await beneath the surface. Our conclusion: beautiful, high-quality, large, a real statement on the coffee table – and a gift that is guaranteed not to gather dust in a drawer. And at a current price of €26.99, the book is a real bargain.
