Dive in and marvel: colors, shapes, and mysterious creatures open the doors to the hidden world of the oceans
From 28 March 2026, the Port des Lumières immersive experience centre in Hamburg will open its new production, “Wonder World Ocean”. Visitors are invited to embark on a multi-sensory journey into the depths of the ocean.
Following successful formats on the cosmos and dinosaurs, the new show is aimed at divers and, of course, all sea lovers: it combines authentic underwater footage, elaborate animations, large-scale projections, and a specially composed soundtrack to bring the diversity and beauty of the oceans to life.
The production was created in cooperation between Culturespaces Studio® and the French studio Spectre Lab; in around ten months, more than 100 species of underwater flora and fauna were processed into impressive sequences from around 800 video recordings. The huge projection screens display monumental scenes—from colorful reefs, glowing jellyfish, and fiery red algae to giants such as sperm whales, blue whales, humpback whales, giant rays, and the great white shark.
Floor-level projections allow viewers to literally immerse themselves in these habitats, while authentic ocean sounds and familiar film music in the new, tailor-made soundtrack accompany the visual impressions. Scenes are set dramatically: for example, the combination of the first notes of “Goldfinger” with the tentacles of a giant octopus on the walls — an example of the creative combination of image and sound that gives the show its special atmosphere.
An experience for all the senses
“Wunderwelt Ozean” (Wonderful World of the Ocean) reveals the immense ecological wealth of the seas—over 70 percent of the Earth's surface is covered by oceans, and more than 250,000 species have been described to date—while also emphasizing the fragility of these habitats. The proximity that visitors experience to creatures that are otherwise hardly accessible is intended to inspire admiration and serve as an impetus to protect the oceans. Complementing the main visual production is a kids' studio that introduces younger visitors to the topic in a playful and interactive way, offering families a low-threshold educational opportunity.
With “Wunderwelt Ozean” (Wonderful World of the Ocean), Port des Lumières promises an experience for all the senses: monumental visual projections, spatial sound compositions, and a dramaturgically dense sequence of scenes combine to create an immersive production that appeals to both scientific curiosity and aesthetic fascination.
Managing Director Jan-Peter Becker emphasizes the aim of once again transforming the world of science into a wonderland with this format and opening up new perspectives on familiar and exotic underwater landscapes.
“Wunderwelt Ozean” aims to literally immerse visitors in impressive images, impressive sounds, and the question of how we can preserve these sensitive ecosystems. The show is aimed equally at nature-loving adults, families, and young explorers, and is both a cultural and educational offering that combines entertainment and environmental awareness.
