New Garmin smartwatch model for daily life, fitness & numerous sports.

Garmin launches the Descent G1, a new model in the Descent GPS dive computer series. Especially with the battery, new ground has been broken and the performance data - especially with the solar version does a great job (in addition to the standard version, there will be a solar version).

The battery is supposed to last up to 25 hours in dive mode, and even up to 3 weeks in smartwatch mode. It gets even longer with the solar versions of the watch, which then promise up to 124 days of battery life in smartwatch mode.

As other main features, the manufacturer mentions 24/7 health and fitness tracking, connected features and of course some interesting functions for divers:

Both novice and experienced divers, as well as technical divers, will feel right at home with the new Descent G1 series. Multiple dive modes are supported for single and multigas (air, nitrox, trimix and 100% O2), gauge mode, apnea as well as diving with rebreathers. The watch also features a 3-axis digital compass and vibration depth alerts. Right on the wrist, depth, dive time, temperature, NDL/TTS, ascent/descent rates, gas mix, PO2, N2 loading, decompression/safety stop information and, of course, time can be read during the dive.

Entry and exit points are automatically marked using multi-GNSS satellite support and logged in the app. This allows a detailed analysis of each dive activity, including maximum depth and bottom time, to be viewed and dive data to be shared with others as well. The Dive app is also used to configure new settings, plan dives - incl. pull ratings and recommendations for popular dive sites from community experiences, and edit dives.

Emergency function

In the event of an emergency, the Descent G1 can be used in combination with an inReach Mini 2 GPS satellite communication device to send and receive messages from the wrist immediately after surfacing on the surface. In addition, an interactive SOS can be triggered (active subscription required). In the matching inReach Mini underwater case (sold separately), the device is protected during the dive. Thanks to automatic accident notification, the Descent G1 can send a message with the name and current location to predefined emergency contacts via Garmin Connect using the paired smartphone. The LiveTrack function also lets you share your location with others in real time.
