Experience mine and cave diving, captivating specialist lectures
The PATD diving association is hosting a special event on June 27 and 28, 2026: an exclusive weekend in the Nuttlar slate mine, offering divers of all experience levels the rare opportunity to experience the fascination of mine and cave diving up close and to exchange ideas with renowned speakers on important diving topics.
The registration deadline is March 1, and there are still a few places available, especially for recreational divers who want to take the opportunity to get a taste of the fascinating world of cave and mine diving. The organizers look forward to seeing you there for a cool event with great people.
The last secret of the technical lectures has now been revealed. Nico Gerdau and Vincent Kessler will report on technically extremely demanding dives and explorations in previously unknown cave areas:
Normally, this means that dozens of helpers transport equipment deep into the systems, habitats are set up, and a team of safety divers supply the push divers with fresh tanks, warm drinks, or even food. Such projects are true masterpieces – both in terms of diving and organization.
And then there are two who take a completely different approach. Instead of huge teams, they rely on meticulous preparation, technical optimization, and tailor-made equipment, some of which is not even available on the market. They gather every available detail about the target object and then set off – quickly, precisely, and with relatively little or no support. It's a style of exploration reminiscent of alpine climbing and shaped by cave explorers such as the members of the English Cave Diving Group or the Swiss Pedro Balordi: light, efficient, and uncompromisingly focused.
Niko Gerdau and Vincent Kessler combine this approach with sidemount and bailout rebreathers, achieving a range of applications that is rarely seen in this form.
In addition to fascinating insights into areas that will probably always remain hidden to most divers, participants can also look forward to many ideas that will certainly be useful for their own dives: precise planning, suitable equipment, clear goal orientation. Exciting and educational at the same time!
