We are thrilled to introduce our latest destination: the British Virgin Islands – a tropical island paradise in the northeast Caribbean that is perfect for divers and explorers,” explains Hugo Kastner, head of marketing at Karibiksport.

In this blog, we take you on a journey to an archipelago that is hard to beat in terms of diversity, authenticity, and beauty. Find out what makes the BVI (as the British Virgin Islands call themselves) so special, what diving spots await you – and why Karibiksport is convinced that this is where your next big underwater adventure begins,” Kastner continues.

An archipelago straight out of a Caribbean novel

The British Virgin Islands consist of around 60 islands and islets, only 16 of which are permanently inhabited. Anyone who comes here quickly realizes that this is not a destination for mass tourism. This is the Caribbean as it should be – quiet, personal, relaxed, with a touch of adventure and a pinch of luxury.

The main islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, and Anegada form the geographical and cultural heart of the BVI. Each island has its own character:

* Tortola – the largest island, lively yet laid-back, with the charming Road Town as its capital
* Virgin Gorda – known for “The Baths,” massive granite rocks, turquoise lagoons, and exclusive resorts
* Jost Van Dyke – legendary for its beach bars and the feeling that time has stood still here
* Anegada – flat, wild, surrounded by coral reefs, with flamingos, endless beaches, and freshly grilled lobster

And between all these islands: a maritime world of mysterious wrecks, dramatic reefs, colorful schools of fish, and crystal-clear water – an underwater mecca just waiting to be discovered.

Diving in the BVI – diversity, visibility, and magic

What makes diving in the British Virgin Islands so special? It's the combination of unspoiled nature, varied spots, and perfect conditions – almost all year round. The visibility underwater is often better than in many other Caribbean regions, the water temperatures range between 26 and 29 degrees Celsius, and the reefs are healthy and vibrant.

The RMS Rhone – a classic among wrecks

A dive to the RMS Rhone is one of the absolute highlights of the region. The British mail and passenger ship sank in a hurricane in 1867 and now lies in several well-preserved parts at a depth of around 25 meters. Corals have reclaimed their place, schools of fish swim between the deck structures, and the mystical atmosphere underwater is indescribable.

Colorful reefs and caves

Spots such as The Indians, The Caves near Norman Island, and Alice in Wonderland near Ginger Island showcase the diversity of the BVI underwater world: steep walls, cave systems, overhangs, coral gardens, sponges, reef fish, occasional nurse sharks or eagle rays – and always the feeling of diving into another world.

Anegada Reef – off the beaten track

Those willing to venture further afield will be rewarded at Anegada Reef. The huge, largely unexplored reef system around the shallow coral island of Anegada offers a nature experience in a class of its own: crystal-clear water, bizarre coral formations, large fish – and peace and quiet. Here, you are often alone with the sea.

More than diving – island experiences à la Caribbean sports

Of course, diving is the main focus – but the BVI offer so much more. And that's exactly what makes them the perfect destination for couples, groups, diving schools, and groups of friends:

* Combine sailing and diving – cruise through the islands on a catamaran, dive in the morning, snorkel in the afternoon, and enjoy the sunset in a secluded bay in the evening
* Experience barefoot luxury – small, high-quality resorts such as those on Virgin Gorda or boutique villas with private pools
* Enjoy the Caribbean at its best – BBQ on the beach, live music at sunset, fresh mangoes for breakfast, a rum punch in the evening
* Discover nature – hike through tropical vegetation, go bird watching, see flamingos on Anegada or explore historic ruins on Salt Island
