Boat capsizes on Lake Traunsee

Major rescue operation with no injuries

On Thursday afternoon, three fire brigades and the water rescue service were called to Lake Traunsee in Gmunden after a motorboat capsized.

The boat, which belonged to a diving school, suddenly filled with water while underway and eventually capsized, sinking almost completely in the lake. Thanks to the quick response, the captain was able to steer the vessel to the jetty of a water ski school before it sank completely.

All occupants were able to reach the shore in time and there were no injuries. The immediate response of the rescue services and the use of oil booms also prevented environmentally hazardous operating materials from entering the lake and causing damage.
