"Art Autumn 2021" at ntv moves into the next round

Camera instead of paintbrush, sea and pool instead of photo studio: when Gaby Fey presses the shutter, everyone holds one' breath. The ntv Art Autumn with Wolfram Kons is dedicated to completely new, mysterious perspectives with a new episode of "Inside Art." In "Inside Art: Gaby Fey - im Bilderrausch des Meeres" on Friday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m., the ntv art expert visits the Cologne-based underwater artist in her second home in the south of France, dives exclusively with her and experiences first-hand how her unique underwater works are created.

Gaby Fey started her career as an international model - and discovered her passion for photography. After moving behind the camera, she made her breakthrough as a fashion photographer. More than ten years ago, she also ventured into the water, her element. Since then, she has been creating technically complex artistic photography under water and staging icons of art history. Whether Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper," Venus after Botticelli, the French symbol of freedom Marianne by Delacroix or Géricault's "Raft of the Medusa" - Gaby Fey has photographically reinterpreted these classics by world-famous artists under water, among other things (see also news article (in German) on the subject) - and in the process developed her very own artistic signature.  "Art can still be beautiful in the 21st century," emphasizes Gaby Fey, who also portrays actors, models and media stars such as Bruce Darnell.

Most of her photographs are taken in her pool in the small Provençal port town of Carqueiranne in southern France, the Cologne-based artist's second home - always after long and intensive planning. "The right moment is when I press the shutter release and feel I have actually captured the soul of an image. Showing the soul of a person is the biggest challenge of all, but also something wonderful because you feel it directly when you see the picture," says Gaby Fey.

In "Inside Art," ntv art expert Wolfram Kons experiences first-hand how elaborately the photographic works are produced in collaboration with a large team. He also goes out to sea with the underwater artist to look for new, spectacular backgrounds, finds out what makes an underwater shoot so fascinating, why Gaby Fey deliberately chose the south of France and how she works with changes of perspective. Wolfram Kons: "I have already observed many artists at work, seen how their works were created, but never under water. It was a great journey with Gaby Fey and fascinating to see how blurry becomes the flowing poetry of photography."
