I ´ve been on vacation at Punta Cana, hotel Dreams Palm Beach, from 23.3.
till 6.4.2010.
My girlfriend was diving some years ago in Egypt and convinced me of
trying it. So we decided to do our OWD brevet here.
We first searched for information in the net, and came across the dive
base ProMarine, only 20 minutes walk south from our hotel, on the beach of
the hotel Catalonia Bavaro.
If you are not located in the Catalonia, there is no problem to pick you
up with the speedboat - so you only have to walk to the base the first
time.
The team:
The whole team is friendly and always helpful - from assembling the equipment up to ´carrying the bottles to the boat´ (This I call holiday-feeling)
I would especially mention the three instructors, who have left a very
experienced and competent impression on us!
We felt understood and well supported!
Our special thanks to Frank, our ´personal´ Cuban Dive Instructor!
Totally reliable, considerate and patient, he gave us a feeling of security and comfort.
We are sure, he´s the ´right man´ for everybody who´s interested in diving, but who´s unexperienced and also perhaps a little bit frightened of the unknown element!
Communication is possible in almost all languages, English is currently the best solution - but due to the good language skills of Frank, also the explanations concerning the Open
Water course / theory were easy to understand! In the future there will be a German instructor, too.
The equipment of the base is simple but well maintained, especially important things, such as the compressor for filling bottles, are regularly serviced and tested (each 1 / 2 year). We are absolutely recommending the base!
We would like to say thank you to all, especially to Frank, and to promise again: We will be back!
Concerning the dive spots: During my dives around ´El Nino´, we could see rays, lionfishs, cuttlefishs, and more ... Colorful reef fishes in many sizes - which can be fed with some soaked oats (spanish:avena ) (to all divers: NORMALLY you don´t do
that! Here, the fishes are already used to that little ´extra meal´)
And there are one or two small caves to dive through.
