All major trade fairs in January canceled.
North-Rhine Westphalia prohibits major trade fairs in January - The world's largest water sports trade fair, „boot", is also affected. The „boot" which was actually planned from 22 to 30 January, must be cancelled due to the spread and dangers of the Omikron variant of Corona. The new regulation in the country's Corona Protection Act applies to large public fairs that normally have more than 750 visitors at any one time. The reason for the measure is the expected significant spread of the Omikron variant, the Ministry of Health announced Wednesday evening in Düsseldorf.
Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) stressed, "We must continue to be very careful at the moment." Although it is not yet clear at what pace Omikron will spread, he said. But action must be taken now, he said. For that reason, he said, the state has already banned large soccer games and sporting events with spectators in the current corona protection ordinance. "It is only logical that in January also no large public fairs with many visitors from different regions and countries from all over the world take place," said Laumann.
This means that after the travel trade fairs in Stuttgart, Hamburg and the world's largest tourism trade fair ITB in Berlin, Düsseldorf's boot has also fallen victim to the current situation - now in it's second year.
