The Mata Ikan (Malay for “Fish Eye”) was originally commissioned as a utility / diving support vessel used by the MPA throughout the Port of Singapore. In 1998 she was purchased by a private investor and spent several months being overhauled and converted to a recreational & technical diving vessel. Over the following +10 years she served her role well, but was unfortunately often under-utilitized, over time falling into a state of neglect
In 2010 new management took over the vessel and immediately began a major program of renovation, repair, and modernization to make the Mata Ikan a best-in-class dive vessel. A few of the changes include:
* Complete renovation of the galley, lounge, and restroom facilities, with all interior spaces receiving substantial attention
* Overhaul of the physical plant, including engines, generators, and hydraulics
* Complete replacement of a major portion of the steering system
* Installation of a computerized navigation system, new GPS, AIS, and other
navigation instruments
* Replacement / overhaul of the compressor systems, air filtration system,
and diving equipment
* Outfitting with a wide variety of new equipment, from new kitchen
appliances and an entertainment system to new fill whips, surface supplied
O2, new deco bars, new tanks and twinsets, installation of an O2 cleaning
workshop, and the list goes on...
