Weissensee: Austria's first official underwater mailbox

Underwater mail at diving.DE at Lake Weissensee

The first official underwater mailbox is located at the Weissensee east shore since May 2023 in the municipality of Stockenboi. From 04 May 2023 postcards from Carinthia can now be sent as special underwater letter post! The Austrian Post has officially launched the first underwater mailbox in Austria in cooperation with the diving.DE dive center Weissensee!

The mailbox is located at the house reef of Diving Weissensee on a depth of good 5 meters and is therefore not only accessible for certified divers, but also during a try dive. What an experience for novice divers and of course lots of fun for all certified divers!

If you want to send this very special and unique vacation greeting, you can buy waterproof postcards with various motifs at the diving center and write on them with waterproof pens to insert the postcard afterwards during a relaxed house reef dive! The mailbox is emptied weekly by the diving center, the cards are dried and then sent on their way to the post office. 

The modern diving center diving.DE Weissensee is located in the recently built lido Stockenboi on the beautiful eastern shore of Lake Weissensee. With an altitude of 930 m. above sea level and its (almost) drinking water that is up to 26 degrees warm, Lake Weissensee is the purest and highest bathing lake in the Alps.

Steep walls, sunken forests, abundance of fish and great visibility

Divers can expect visibility of up to 15 meters, sunken forests, great steep walls and an incredible abundance of fish for an Alpine lake. If you are looking for original, easy and comfortable dives, this is the right place for you. Both the house reef and the boat dives are suitable for beginners as well as experienced divers.

In addition to the regular diving operation for certified divers, you can of course also learn to dive there, or attend advanced courses.
