Strict corona rules in Thailand to fall

From July 1, tourists to Thailand will only have to present a vaccination card or a negative CoV test on arrival. The previously required online registration for the "Thailand Passport" for entry will be eliminated. Insurance in case of CoV disease will also no longer be required. In addition, the requirement to wear a mask outdoors will be eliminated and will only apply to large gatherings of people.

The relaxations were announced Friday following a meeting of the CoV Crisis Center CCSA. Infection numbers have been steadily dropping in recent weeks. As a result, starting in July, bars and entertainment venues will also be allowed to reopen until two in the morning - instead of only until midnight as before.

The country hopes the relaxation will attract more (diving) holidaymakers and increase the number to at least 7.5 million vacationers by the end of the year, said Tourism Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn. The industry is extremely important for Thailand. However, the country is still a long way from its pre-pandemic numbers, with 40 million people still traveling to the vacation destination known for its wonderful diving spots, magnificent beaches, temples and jungles in 2019.

Holger Schwab, founder and managing director of Sea Bees on Phuket comments on the new developments: "After 2 years of uncertainty and waiting, it finally starts again that you can travel to us without forms and uncertainty. For many of our customers, Thailand is their place of longing and we look forward to many hours together in the Land of Smiles with its fantastic food and the colorful biodiversity of the Indian Ocean."
