The German Scuba Divers Association invites you to participate in the International Open German Championship in UW-Photography and Videography. The competition, also known as Kamera Louis Boutan (KLB), will be held for the 36th time and is the most traditional underwater photo/video competition in Germany. The highest award for athletes at the national level is the title of German Champion in its respective discipline.

Attention beginners

The Kamera Louis Boutan is a live shooting competition. The only large photo and video competition in the German-speaking world, which is conducted according to the competition rules of CMAS and therefore a good opportunity to get to know these competition conditions.

The aim is to select the best pictures and create the best video sequences at the end. To make the best of the given conditions on-site. The filmmakers then also have to edit the film in the evening hours.

But you can prepare yourself: It is ideal to dive the dive sites beforehand and get to know them. It is also important to research what are attractive motifs at the time of year of the competition. Photographer/filmmaker and model/assistant must be a well-rehearsed team. Motif search, motif design/posing and diving safety are teamwork.

The pictures may not be edited, at least not after the dive. However, there are ways to edit images underwater: cropping the image, brightness and color adjustments, even multiple exposures and montage. This is something you should definitely practice beforehand. In a few dives and under competition stress, you have to get the best out of it.

Scoring points with the jury is the goal. You have to be 100% successful in the competition categories. Motifs and films must please the jury, so it is important to develop a feeling for the competition and judging trends of recent years.

For the photographers: Do you rely on classic motifs and image composition or do you dare to do something new? New technical effects, perspectives, lighting.

For the filmmakers: The short film of a few minutes duration should captivate you. A great story with a good balance of originality and technical quality.

For the performance class Video D, the multiple German champion as well as world champion of underwater videography - Katja Kieslich - will be available for you during the entire competition period with advice and support. Whether tips and tricks for underwater or video design and editing.
