Automated trash collector sucks up waste in the port of Trieste

A few years ago, we already presented the automated floating trash bin developed by surfers Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski. Garbage, oil, fuels and detergents are to be collected or vacuumed in this way.

An invention that makes it possible to clean up the water surface of harbors, inland waterways and lakes: the automatic trash chute, through which the water flows, is considered an alternative to special cleaning boats. The trash collects in the barrel, the water flows to the pump where it can be filtered and then flows back into the sea.

The port in Trieste, Italy, now wants to use this alternative to keep its port area cleaner. The garbage can has already been successfully tested in a number of ports; a "Seabin" project is also just starting in Sydney Harbor, Australia.. "Seabin" can collect up to 500 kilos of plastic waste before the container has to be emptied, representatives of the Port of Trieste announced.

"We are aware that 'Seabin' alone cannot solve all marine pollution problems. However, it can make a significant contribution, so we will install two of these special trash cans at our port," said Zeno D'Agostino, president of the port authority.
