Product fair, expert advice, and practical tests in open water
From May 15 to 17, 2026, the “Diving Experience Days 2026” will take place at Marina Bernstein on Lake Goitzsche. The event is aimed at recreational divers, beginners, and those interested in water sports. The event will open on Friday, May 15, at 12:00 noon.
The focus will be on a combination of a product fair, expert advice, and practical tests in open water. Manufacturers and organizations from the diving industry, rescue services, and lake and marine conservation will present the latest equipment, innovations, training opportunities, and projects. Visitors will have the opportunity to test selected equipment directly in the lake under real conditions. Regional swimming and diving clubs will also provide information about training and entry opportunities.
The Great Goitzsche Lake is a former open-cast lignite mine that began to be flooded in the late 1990s, reaching its final water level in 2002. With an area of around 13.3 square kilometers and a maximum depth of around 48 meters, it is one of the larger bodies of water in the region. For divers, the lake offers a variety of underwater areas, including sunken forests, relics from the mining era, and a boat wreck. Depending on the season and conditions, visibility ranges from several meters to over ten meters at times.
The Goitzsche also stands for the successful structural change in the region. Over the past decades, the former open-cast mining area has been transformed into a versatile leisure and recreation area. With marinas, promenades, cycling and hiking trails, and a wide range of water sports, the lake has developed into an important tourist destination in Saxony-Anhalt. Events such as the diving experience days underscore this development and strengthen the supra-regional perception of the location.
