DAN Europe encourages young minds interested in the areas of dive medicine, physiology, biomedical engineering and research through the DAN Europe Research Internship Program. Participants will learn about diving-related research and develop or enhance professional skills that can lead to career advancement.
Each participant will have a custom-tailored program with a common training period of 3 weeks. Following this initial, basic training, they will work closely with mentor experts to maximize their learning opportunities by actively working in the field.
All internships start on July 4th 2016. Duration may vary according to the customised program set for every intern, and will be determined by factors such as productivity, research needs, and the interest of both intern and mentor.
Training will mainly take place at the DAN Europe Continental Office (Roseto degli Abruzzi, Italy). In some cases and for part of their training, interns will be hosted by DAN Research partner organisations that are appropriate for their interests and ability. Activities may include field, laboratory and/or epidemiological studies.
Research interns typically assist in data collection and work on a variety of assignments to develop their practical skills, critical thinking, and technical communication expertise. Interns will be asked to produce a written report of their experience which may be used in full or in part in DAN publications, including Alert Diver magazine, DAN website, research newsletters and press releases.
Interns are primarily recruited among undergraduate students at Colleges and Universities as well as early-stage researchers from private organisations, including post-graduate students. Academic credits may be available for students registered in educational programs while completing the research internship.
DAN can provide documentation to meet typical institutional requirements such as the ones of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). The maximum number of interns is limited to 8. No compensation will be provided for the internship. DAN will provide all interns with logistic support (e.g. organisation of their trip and stay). DAN will also accept applications from interns using the ERASMUS + Program.
