Since 2008, the sale of plastic bags in supermarkets and other shops has been banned in the Red Sea region. As of 1 June, the governor responsible for the Red Sea Region decreed "Decree no. 167 "now the final" off "for all plastic disposable and disposable items!

This prohibition includes not only the use and distribution of plastic bags, but all plastic disposable items on land as well as on board safari boats and day boats, which were previously used for food and drinks. The only exception are large reusable plastic bags, which may still be used for garbage collection and garbage transport.

Plastic utensils such as forks, knives, spoons, plates, mugs and straws are particularly in the focus of this much-needed environmental protection measure. Of particular interest to all divers is the explicit indication that this decree not only concerns the sale and supply of the above-mentioned plastic articles by the trade, but also the use of such articles in the country is prohibited. This means that even the use of plastic bags brought along (for example, for transporting street shoes in a suitcase) or of their own disposable plastic drinking vessels for diving boats is strictly prohibited. So better dispose of your own plastic material at home, since its time has expired anyway ...
